BONE MARROW ASPIRATE CONCENTRATE
(BMAC)

BMAC TREATMENT: AN INNOVATIVE APPROACH TO HEALING

It’s a safe, cutting-edge, natural therapy designed to help repair and regenerate tissues affected by injury or degeneration. By harnessing the power of stem cells, growth factors, and proteins from your own bone marrow, this treatment offers a non-surgical option for pain relief and improved function.

At Rockwall Regenerative Medicine, we are committed to delivering some of the most advanced BMAC Treatment available in Rockwall and surrounding areas, ensuring our patients receive the best care possible.

UNDERSTANDING HOW BMAC TREATMENT WORKS

Bone Marrow Aspirate Concentrate (BMAC) Treatment utilizes the spongy tissue inside your bones (bone marrow), which contains a rich reservoir of stem cells, growth factors, and healing proteins. These elements are essential for repairing damaged tissues and reducing inflammation.

BMAC Treatment begins with a simple procedure to collect bone marrow, typically from the pelvic bone. The marrow is then processed to isolate and concentrate the most beneficial components, including:

  • Mesenchymal Stem Cells (MSCs): These cells can differentiate into bone, cartilage, and other tissues, promoting repair and regeneration.

  • Growth Factors: Critical for reducing inflammation and accelerating the healing process.

  • Platelets and Plasma: Supporting tissue recovery and providing additional anti-inflammatory benefits.

This concentrated solution is carefully injected into injured or degenerated areas under imaging guidance for precise placement. The goal is to stimulate the body’s natural healing mechanisms, offering relief and promoting recovery.

CONDITIONS WE TREAT WITH BMAC TREATMENT

Bone Marrow Aspirate Concentrate (BMAC) Treatment is a versatile therapy used for a variety of orthopedic conditions, including:

  • Joint Pain: Osteoarthritis, cartilage injuries, and more.

  • Tendon and Ligament Injuries: Rotator cuff tears, Achilles tendonitis, and ligament sprains.

  • Back and Spine Conditions: Degenerative disc disease, facet joint arthritis, and sacroiliac joint dysfunction.

  • Sports Injuries: Acute or chronic injuries affecting athletes.

By addressing the root cause of pain and dysfunction, BMAC Treatment can help you regain mobility, reduce pain, and return to the activities you love.

BMAC VS. CORTISONE SHOTS

While cortisone shots are widely used to reduce inflammation and provide temporary relief from pain, they do not address the root cause of the condition. Instead, cortisone works by suppressing inflammation, which can mask symptoms but may also weaken tissues over time with repeated use.

Bone Marrow Aspirate Concentrate (BMAC) Treatment, on the other hand, focuses on healing and regeneration. This cutting-edge therapy harnesses the body’s natural repair mechanisms by utilizing stem cells, growth factors, and proteins from your bone marrow. Rather than simply relieving symptoms, BMAC targets the underlying injury or degeneration to encourage long-term recovery and improved function.

For those seeking a solution that prioritizes repair and minimizes reliance on temporary fixes, BMAC Treatment offers a minimally invasive, natural alternative to cortisone injections.

WHAT TO EXPECT DURING YOUR BMAC TREATMENT

At Rockwall Regenerative Medicine, we prioritize your comfort and safety throughout every step of your Bone Marrow Aspirate Concentrate (BMAC) treatment. Our team of board-certified experts has years of experience in regenerative treatments, ensuring you receive the highest level of care.

The process begins with the collection of bone marrow, where a local anesthetic is used to ensure comfort during the aspiration. The sample is then processed in a sterile environment to isolate and concentrate the stem cells and healing factors. Once prepared, the solution is injected into the affected area using ultrasound or fluoroscopy guidance to ensure precision.

Recovery from BMAC treatment is typically quick. While mild soreness may occur at the collection or injection site, most patients can return to light activities within a few days.

While individual results may vary, many patients begin to notice improvements in pain, mobility, and overall function within a few weeks following the procedure. Full benefits may continue to develop over the course of several months as the body’s natural healing processes are supported.

  • Does Bone Marrow Aspirate Concentrate (BMAC) Treatment hurt?
Patients may experience some mild discomfort during the bone marrow extraction and injection, but these sensations are generally well-managed. Local anesthetics and Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas) are available to ensure a more comfortable experience.
  • How long does it take to see results from Bone Marrow Aspirate Concentrate (BMAC) Treatment?
Results vary depending on the area treated and the individual’s overall health. Some patients begin to notice improvement within weeks, while others may take several months as the body’s natural healing process takes time to work effectively.
  • What is Bone Marrow Aspirate Concentrate (BMAC) Treatment?
Bone Marrow Aspirate Concentrate (BMAC) Treatment is a regenerative therapy that utilizes stem cells, growth factors, and proteins found in your bone marrow to promote tissue repair and healing. Bone marrow contains biologically active components that play a crucial role in maintaining health. These components are concentrated into an injectable solution and administered to help restore function and reduce pain.
  • Are there any side effects to Bone Marrow Aspirate Concentrate (BMAC) Treatment?
Because the therapy uses cells from your own body, the risk of adverse reactions is low. However, you may experience temporary discomfort or swelling at the injection site. As with any medical procedure, there are potential risks, which will be discussed during your consultation.
  • Bone Marrow Aspirate Concentrate (BMAC) Treatment vs. Cortisone Shots:
While cortisone shots provide temporary pain relief by reducing inflammation, Bone Marrow Aspirate Concentrate (BMAC) Treatment promotes long-term healing and tissue regeneration. This therapy addresses the underlying cause of pain rather than just masking symptoms, making it a more durable solution for many conditions.
  • How does Bone Marrow Aspirate Concentrate (BMAC) Treatment work?
Bone Marrow Aspirate Concentrate (BMAC) Treatment involves extracting a small amount of bone marrow, typically from the hip bone, using a minimally invasive procedure. The bone marrow is processed to concentrate the biologically active components, including stem cells, growth factors, and cytokines. This solution is then precisely injected into the affected area using ultrasound or X-ray guidance to support the body’s natural healing processes and promote tissue regeneration.
  • Am I a candidate for Bone Marrow Aspirate Concentrate (BMAC) Treatment?
If you are dealing with joint pain, osteoarthritis, or chronic tendon injuries and other treatments have been unsuccessful, Bone Marrow Aspirate Concentrate (BMAC) Treatment may be an option for you. Patients seeking to avoid invasive surgery, cortisone injections, or long-term use of pain medications are often good candidates. A consultation with our specialists can determine whether this therapy is suitable for your condition.
  • Where is Bone Marrow Aspirate Concentrate (BMAC) Treatment used?
Bone Marrow Aspirate Concentrate (BMAC) Treatment can be applied to many areas of the body, including joints, tendons, ligaments, and muscles. It is commonly used to treat injuries and conditions in the neck, back, shoulder, hip, knee, and other regions.
  • How long does a treatment usually take?
A typical Bone Marrow Aspirate Concentrate (BMAC) Treatment session takes about 1.5 to 2 hours. This includes the extraction of bone marrow, processing to concentrate the therapeutic components, and the injection procedure. The time may vary depending on the number of areas being treated and the complexity of the condition. Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas) may be offered to reduce anxiety and minimize the need for local anesthetics.
  • Will I require someone to drive me home after the treatment?
Depending on the treatment area and extent of the procedure, it is often recommended to have someone drive you home, especially if sedation or Nitrous Oxide was used during the procedure.
  • Is there anyone in the office who is bilingual?
Yes, both English and Spanish are spoken in our office.

  • What is your policy for releasing records?
Rockwall Regenerative Medicine requires a consent form that is signed by either the patient or the patient's legal guardian.
  • How does PRP work?
PRP contains over 1500 proteins called growth factors, which may aid in healing and inflammation of soft tissue injuries and arthritis. After drawing your blood, unwanted white and red blood cells are removed, concentrating platelets and plasma. This purified plasma solution is precisely injected to potentially trigger the body’s natural healing process.
  • How long does it take to recover from PRP injections?
There is minimal downtime associated with PRP injections, and most people can expect to return to daily activities shortly following their procedure. It's common to experience mild tenderness at the injection site, which is normal and typically resolves within a few days. The recovery time necessary before returning to strenuous use of the treated area will depend on the region treated and the extent of the injury. Oftentimes, because PRP is a natural therapy, the body will provide patients with true feedback regarding when to advance specific activities.
  • Am I a candidate for PRP injections?
If you are experiencing joint pain, osteoarthritis, or chronic tendon pain, you should learn more about PRP treatments. If physical therapy has failed to bring adequate relief, or you prefer to avoid cortisone and pain medications; you may be a candidate for PRP injections. A consultation with our team of physicians will explain whether PRP injections could be an effective treatment for you.
  • How long does it take to see results from PRP injections?
Depending on the injection site and the overall health of the individual it may take several weeks of optimal results as the body takes time to heal naturally. Injections into joints or muscles tend to exhibit signs of healing faster than tendons which have less circulation.
  • Where is PRP used?
PRP can be used in most areas of the body to help potentially accelerate healing and reduce pain. PRP is frequently injected directly into involved joints, muscle, tendons, ligaments, and nerves.
  • Do PRP injections hurt?
This varies for every individual and the injection site. Some mild discomfort or tenderness at the injection site is normal and typically subsides within a few days. To minimize discomfort during the injection process, we offer local anesthetics.
  • How long does a treatment usually take?
Typical treatment takes an around 30-minutes. The time includes the drawing of blood and separating the platelets as well as the administration of any local anesthetics and the injections.
  • Are there any side effects to PRP injections?
As the injection contains your own blood platelets it is unlikely that you will experience adverse reactions. There may be temporary discomfort associated with the injection sites as well as some pain or inflammation for the first few days. As with many medical procedures there are associated risks which should be discussed with your physician prior to undergoing treatment.
  • What are PRP injections?
PRP stands for “platelet rich plasma.” Platelets are the body’s natural wound healers, found in the blood’s plasma, along with red and white blood cells. Platelets contain proteins called growth factors. These proteins play a key role in the healing process. With this treatment your body’s own platelets are concentrated into an injectable solution to trigger the natural reparative process.
  • PRP VS. Cortisone Shots
Both PRP therapy and cortisone shots address joint pain and inflammation but work differently. Cortisone provides quick, temporary relief by reducing inflammation, though repeated use may weaken tissues. PRP uses your own platelets to promote healing and regeneration, offering longer-lasting benefits. While cortisone is ideal for short-term relief, PRP supports long-term recovery and joint health. Our team can help determine which treatment best suits your needs.
  • Will I require someone to drive me home after the treatment?
No, you won’t need someone to drive you home. Depending on the area being treated and the extent of the treatment, most patients can safely drive themselves.
